Paralysis by Analysis

Everything I need to know I have already read in a self-help book.

I am a classic over-thinker. It comes from being a perfectionist and wanting to be the best at everything. I grew up with the notion that if you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all. Through the years I have come to realize that this way of thinking, or living, would stop me from doing nearly everything except for sports which came naturally to me.

Done is better then perfect.

I am now on a mission to change my life forever. Live the life of my dreams. To do so I will have to take some risks, put myself out there. Be vunerable. Be brave. Making the plan is easy… but then putting it into action is the hard part.

Paralysis by Analysis

Sometimes I get so caught up overthinking that it stops me in my tracks. Paralysis by analysis. Too much to do, too many risks, too many unknowns leads to doing nothing. Instead of over analysing and over planning I need to just hold my breath and jump in. It is much easier to jump into a pool of cold water then it is to wade in slowly. The difference is the commitment. Once you jump there is no turning back. When you wade in you can back out if you chicken out.

From today on this blog will document how I changed my life one step at a time. I will use all the tools I have learned from life and the myriad of self help books I have read in my life. No more need to stall. I know what I want and I will acheive it. Follow along and do the same to change your own life.

So far, the plan is this:

1. Mission Statement – write out a personal mission statement about how you want to live your life.

2. Goal Setting – set the goals you will like to acheive both long term and short term

3. Action Plan – put a plan into action

4. Be awesome.

O.K. so the plan needs some refining but done is better then perfect at this point. The next blog post we will work on writing our personal mission statements. which comes from Steven Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” . It’s time to stop wishing for a better life and just living a better life. Whether its better health, a better job, you name it… you can do it if you want it and you believe that it is possible. The only thing stopping you, is you.

“Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside of them was superior to circumstance” – Bruce Barton
